View full detailsWhat is Udo's Oil 3·6·9 Blend?
Our multiple award-winning Udo’s Oil 3·6·9 Blend is a mix of certified organic, plant-based, omega food oils. It provides people who care about health with a reliable, undamaged source of polyunsaturated omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids (or EFAs) and monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acids, which are all excellent sources of energy, fat-soluble vitamins and other key nutrients, and are important components of all membranes of the trillions of cells in the body. Udo's Oil Blend is gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, nut-free, non-gmo project verified, and packaged in non-leaching, sustainable amber glass bottles.
Why are carefully made EFAs important for health?
Some of the greatest health concerns facing the Western diet today are the prevalence of omega-3 deficiency (99% of the population), the overabundance of industrial, highly-refined vegetable oils (mostly omega-6) in our food supply, and the toxic damage from processing and food preparation to which both these sensitive polyunsaturated oils are commonly subjected.(1,3-6) We solved this for you by creating Udo's Oil Blend omegas.
What makes Udo's Oil 3·6·9 Blend so special?
Udo's pioneering mission to 'make good oils with health in mind' began in the 1980s. To protect our EFA-rich plant-based omega oils from light, heat, and oxygen, we designed brand new machinery and unprecedented processes. You will always find Udo’s Oil in a dark bottle, in a protective box, in the fridge. Instead of packaging our certified organic oils in plastic, we chose non-leaching, sustainable glass. And, because we understand the critical role a balanced ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 plays in health, we blended Udo’s Oil in the most effective ratio.
No other company makes EFA-rich omega oils with this level of care.
Who is Udo's Oil 3·6·9 Blend specifically designed for?
EFAs are required for health and normal development at all stages of the human life cycle, which means this oil blend is made for everyone. EFAs support the natural functioning of cells, tissues, glands, and organs and, as a result, support healthy cardiovascular, brain and nerve function, and much more*. It is also designed for anyone who:
In addition to addressing the above needs, the DHA version of Udo’s Oil 3·6·9 Blend was also designed for anyone who would benefit from added DHA in their diet, including pregnant and breast-feeding women, aging adults, and people seeking additional cognitive function support and eye health support*;
The High Lignan version of Udo’s Oil 3·6·9 Blend was designed for anyone who is looking for more dietary sources of antioxidants, natural substances which may delay or prevent some of the potential damaging effects of oxidation on human cells*.
The gel capsule form of the original oil blend was designed specifically for anyone who is traveling and/or on-the-go and requires a ‘maintenance’ supplement of omega fats that does not require refrigeration, or people who are particularly averse to taking oils (as an alternative to the liquid form). Keep in mind that you would have to take 14 capsules to get the equivalent of what one tablespoon of the liquid form would provide.

What are the ingredients in Udo's Oil 3·6·9 Blend?
Udo’s Oil 3·6·9 Blend gives you a complete ‘food oil foundation’ for building a healthy body, delivering all the good oils you need and none of the bad ones you should avoid.
Because health has always been our number one priority—going all the way back to when we started in 1980—we chose to use only organic, plant-based, sustainable sources of good oils and the essential fatty acids they contain. Every ingredient in Udo's Oil was chosen for its value to health.
INGREDIENTS: organic flax seed oil, organic sunflower seed oil, organic sesame seed oil, organic evening primrose seed oil, organic MCT coconut oil, non-GMO organic soy lecithin, organic rice bran oil, organic oat germ oil, non-GMO mixed tocopherols.
The DHA version includes plant-based preformed DHA omega-3s, derived from algae (where the fish get it from). The High Lignan version includes antioxidant-rich lignans.
The cloudy layer in the oil is common with unrefined oils, where natural and health-supporting molecules are preserved, rather than being filtered out. To make the most of their benefits, gently shake the bottle before each use.
We deliberately formulated Udo’s Oil 3·6·9 Blend to be richer in omega-3s than omega-6s to address the widespread omega-3 deficiency in most people’s diets and to replace the damaged omega-6s that are overabundant in Western diets.(7)
How do I use Udo's Oil 3·6·9 Blend for maximum benefit?
For best results: Take 1 tablespoon or more per day, mixed into foods or blended into smoothies, with intake spread out over the course of the day. For optimal benefits, take about 1 tablespoon per 50 pounds of body weight per day. An adult weighing 150 pounds would take about 3 tablespoons per day, and a child weighing 25 pounds would take about ½ a tablespoon per day. This recommendation applies to all three of the Udo’s Oil 3·6·9 Blend formulas (the original, DHA, and High Lignan).
Udo’s Oil 3·6·9 Blend should never be used for high-heat cooking such as frying, sauteéing, etc. Instead, use it for salad dressings, add it to smoothies, and mix it into other uncooked foods throughout the day, or mix it into cooked foods after they have been removed from heat sources, such as with soups, grains, pastas, steamed vegetables, etc. Visit our recipes page for our newest Udo’s Oil recipe ideas.
For Udo’s Oil 3·6·9 Blend in capsule form, take 2 capsules three times a day with meals. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place.
How do I best store Udo's Oil 3·6·9 Blend for maximum freshness?
All three of the Udo’s Oil 3·6·9 Blend formulas (in liquid form) are perishable, just like other healthy but perishable fresh foods. Opened or unopened, always keep Udo’s Oil 3·6·9 Blend refrigerated. Once opened, use the oil within 2 months. To extend shelf life, store Udo’s Oil in the freezer for up to 2 years. You can also refreeze an opened bottle of oil to keep it fresher longer without damaging the oil or breaking the glass bottle (oil does not expand when frozen).
Udo’s Oil 3·6·9 Blend capsules do not require refrigeration. Once opened, use the capsules within a year.
Which of the Udo's Oil 3·6·9 Blend formulas (original, DHA, or High Lignan) should I choose?
All three of our Udo's Oil 3·6·9 Blend formulas (original, DHA, and High Lignan) provide fresh, certified organic omega-3 alpha linolenic acid (ALA) and omega-6 linoleic acid (LA) that are required for health. They are also non-GMO Project Verified and 100% plant-based. All three of our Udo's Oil 3·6·9 Blend omega oil formulas are balanced with a 2:1 ratio of omega-3 to omega-6.
UDO'S OIL DHA 3·6·9 BLEND
In additional to all the above, our Udo's Oil DHA 3·6·9 Blend provides an additional 100mg of preformed plant-based DHA from algae per 15ml tablespoon. It's important to note that the body converts ALA to its longer-chain derivatives, EPA and DHA, by way of desaturation and elongation reactions. So even though the original formula does not contain any preformed EPA or DHA, most people will still get some of both those derivatives from that formula.
It's difficult to measure how much EPA and DHA people are converting from ALA because people convert at different rates under different circumstances. But it is generally believed that if you consume sufficient amounts of daily ALA, your body will convert enough EPA and DHA derivatives. So, the Udo's Oil DHA 3·6·9 Blend formula is for anyone who believes they may benefit from additional DHA, such as pregnant women, anyone over the age of 55, people who are very physically active, and people who want additional cognitive support, for example. For more information on our Udo's Oil DHA 3·6·9 Blend formula, go here.
UDO'S OIL HIGH LIGNAN 3·6·9 BLEND
The Udo's Oil High Lignan 3·6·9 Blend is just like the original but with added antioxidant-rich lignans. This formula is for anyone who believes they may benefit from more anti-oxidants in their diet. Examples of this could be athletes and people over 55. For more information on Udo's Oil High Lignan 3·6·9 Blend and why we created it, go here.
Since all the formulas provide you with certified organic daily omegas required for health, we often suggest trying all three formulas and seeing which works best for you. There's no downside to alternating between them to see if you get any varying results.
Always mix our Udo's Oil 3·6·9 Blend formulas into foods or smoothies and never use for high heat cooking. Always store it in the fridge or freezer (freezing extends shelf life).
What are essential fatty acids and what do they do?
The body is made up of trillions of cells. Essential fatty acids, or EFAs, are required for vital biological functions in every cell such as membrane structure, growth and division, cell-to-cell communication, gene expression, hormone production, receptor function and energy production.(1,2) They are vital for the brain, liver, kidneys, heart, and all other glands and organs.
The body cannot make omega-3 alpha linolenic acid (ALA) or omega-6 linoleic acid (LA) –because it lacks the enzymes required to make them – but must have them to live and be healthy and must therefore get them from dietary sources. Hence, the name 'essential'.(3) Anytime you hear a nutrient is 'essential' this is what it means. Like other perishable but healthy foods, fresh EFAs are easily destroyed by light, oxygen, and heat.
What is DHA?
Docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA, is a long-chain omega-3 fatty acid that is a primary structural component of the human brain, cerebral cortex, skin, and retina. It is one of the two fatty acids that are essential for health (omega-6 is the other) and therefore must be acquired through the diet or supplements. The safest and most sustainable source of DHA is algae (where the fish get it from), which is why we choose to use that specific plant-based source of DHA for our Udo’s Oil DHA 3·6·9 Blend. We believe it is, all-around, the most health-supporting form of DHA.
What are lignans?
Lignans are a group of chemical compounds that form the building blocks of plant cell walls. Some examples of lignans are pinoresinol, podophyllotoxin, and steganacin. They are commonly found in plant-based foods such as flaxseeds, sesame and pumpkin seeds, and rye. In addition to being antioxidant-rich, lignans contain powerful agents that have been found to be anticancer, heart health-supporting, and they contain phytoestrogens that help regulate the body’s estrogen production, among some of their potential health benefits.*

I accidentally left my Udo's Oil bottle on the counter overnight. Is it still okay?
Yes. We've run tests and a *sealed* bottle of Udo's Oil can withstand being out of the fridge at room temperature for several days without any measured change. However, we want you to get the freshest omega oils as possible - and the most out of your health investment. Placing your Udo's Oil bottles in the fridge or freezer as soon as possible will protect the product and all the care we have put into making this certified organic Udo's Oil omega blend for you.
Can I give my dog or cat Udo's Oil?
Many people who use Udo’s Oil for themselves, also add Udo’s Oil to their pet’s food. The most common reports we’ve received from pet owners doing this is better skin, hair, and nails; increased energy; and improved joint function.
Can I freeze Udo's Oil 3·6·9 Blend?
Yes. It is perfectly safe - and even recommended - that you store your extra bottles of certified organic Udo's Oil omega blend in the freezer. This gets you fresher oil for longer. If you go out of town for a couple of weeks, this is also a good time to stash your bottles (opened or unopened) in the freezer. Freezing and refreezing Udo's Oil does not damage these omega oils in any way and the glass bottle does not break from freezing.
